"Little Flock" down on the homestead

It was time once again to find some chickens and that one special rooster and have a "Little Flock" to live on the homestead.  We had so much trouble with the hawks last year that we gave the hens to my sister.   But once warm weather started here in the Ozarks I started missing the crowing and cackling that goes on down at the hen house.  So meet the new "John Wayne and his girls."   I am sure this "John Wayne" will also live up to his name and protect his girls from any manner of evil that might arise!

The chicken house has been cleaned out and fresh straw put down as I anxiously awaited their arrival.  Nothing but the best for my friends!

And this little lady wasted no time in checking out the new nesting basket.  Nothing tastes better than eggs from free range chickens.  These aren't gonna be your white, sissy eggs that you buy in the store either!
Isn't she beautiful?  I am sure we will become good friends!  Raising chickens is good for the soul so if you have room why not find you your own "Little Flock" .  You'll enjoy watching them and there is nothing more welcome than the early morning crow of the rooster as he welcomes up the sun!  Life is good here on the homestead!
