There's something new in the country!

There's something new down at the barn at my sister's farmstead.  So I loaded up the grand kids and headed over to show these young ones the wonder of new life.  A little colt 6 or 7 days old and just as cute as could be.

I unlatched the gate making sure to latch it securely behind me and cautiously approached to see if momma would mind me snapping a couple close up pictures.  When I got out my camera she must have thought the shiny thing was a bucket cause she walked right up to me and gave it a sniff.  I kept trying to remember if it was horses that could kick or just mules but she seemed friendly enough so I proceeded on.

Baby Colt seemed a little more leery of me but knew her momma would protect her if need be so went on about her business of finding something to fill her tummy.

Is this just precious or what?  Unfortunately, my grand kids weren't so impressed and wouldn't even get very far from the truck.  City slickers is what they are!  There's just something about new birth that makes the world seem new and right again.  I just love this time of year.  The sun is shining,  the grass is greening up and new birth is happening in homesteads all over.  Take time to get out of the city and drive down some country roads and watch the animals with their little ones.  You'll be glad you did!
