The count down is on to letting go of the old and embracing the new. May the New Year bring you peace and happiness and all good things. We live in troubling times but each of us has the opportunity to put our lives in the hands of One who can guide us each day. My prayer for this year is that I trust that One and that I hear His Voice directing me in the way to go. I am also thankful for my many friends and my family. Faith, Family, Friends. Anything else is only a temporary fix and won't bring true happiness.
Happy New Year and may 2012 be the best yet!

It's a Log Home kind of Christmas at The Gathering Place Bed and Breakfast and Retreat Center
It's that time of year again. That magical time we call Christmas. When families get together and the world just seems to be a nicer place. I took advantage of the new porch railing this year to put up some garland and red bows. How festive it looks!
I especially like this year cause the weather is hanging around the 55 to 60 degree mark. How great is that? Christmas and warm weather. Best of both worlds. I'm sure snow will get here some day but for today, I'm lovin it!
Don't we look great after dark?
I didn't have room to put up the Christmas tree upstairs in the Bed and Breakfast part of the house so put it up downstairs. Forgot how beautiful my tree looks all decorated with family ornaments that I have been collecting over the years.
These two stockings belong to my two youngest kids. A sweet neighbor lady made these when the kids were about 3 and 6. They hold a special place in my heart. Haven't convinced myself to turn loose of them and give them to the kids yet though. Seeing them hanging in the window makes me smile. Do you have things that make you smile? Everyone should have you know.
I unpacked and put up the ceramic nativity this year also. They've been packed away for several years. It's time to take out the things we hold precious and enjoy them. Life is short. Live it! And my guess is those coming after me may not see my treasures as precious as I do. Just ask my daughter. We have a joke at my house. When Rachel likes something I own she says "Put my name on the back of that." When I was a little girl, my grandma Lizzie would write the names on the back of her stuff so everyone would know who she wanted certain things to go to after she was gone. Alas, when she passed away, most of her stuff was put in an auction. Names on the back or not. Pity! If my kids auction my stuff off after I am gone, I will come back and haunt them. If that is possible. Beware and forewarned!
Out of the closet came my giant angel and I made her the star of the mantle. I kinda like her up there. When I turn the lights off and just leave on the Christmas lights, the room looks so beautiful. I love lighting the fireplace and enjoying the beauty that only a crackling fire can add to a room. I think I am a "kicked up a notch Walton." Just call me Olivia Joyce Walton. Nana for short. And surround me with friends and family. I'll be happy....
I needed more seating for my Log Cabin Bed and Breakfast so bought this chair with a matching couch and ottoman. I think it looks great surrounded with my Christmas ornaments. I have ballerina's , dolls, rocking horses, nutcrackers. All special things to me. And on the floor is my collection of books with pictures of days gone by.
Don't we look great after dark?
My goal is to make my log home not only a special place for me but also a special place for others who might be wanting a place to get away in a country setting. A place to enjoy some special time with family and friends. I believe God will draw those He wants to this place. Maybe it will be those searching for a place to get away from their busy lives for a few days of solitude in a log cabin setting. Or maybe it will be those in need of physical or emotional healing. Maybe it will be those wanting to spend some quality time with family they don't see often and want their get-together to be special. I am so excited to be able to share my home with others.
Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and Holiday season! God is good and I am so glad I am His child and He sent His Son to die for me so I can live forever! Let's don't forget what the Christmas season is really all about. The birth of a Savior. Hope for a world without hope.
Merry Christmas my friends!
